"Utilitarianism has an appearance of wisdom. But over the long haul, it never proves to be utile. Being uncompromisingly principled often looks foolish to many. But over time, it works. Why? Because the God Who made this world made it in such a way that we reap what we sow. Everything reproduces after its kind. It's as certain as the effects of gravity.

"If We the People continue to fail to put God, and truth, and principle before personality, party, or process, the republic cannot possibly be saved. But once we begin to do what is right, without compromise, nothing on earth can stand in our way."
-- Tom Hoefling
"'Wischiwaschi' was a colloquial German word that was used to describe idle. useless talk. In American English the word became "wishy-washy," which refers to that which is watered down, irresolute, and unprincipled. My urgent plea to my fellow Iowans, and to my fellow Americans, is that they completely tune out the wischiwaschi, the political claptrap, the babble, and that they turn the wishy-washy out of public office. Let's get serious, people, before it's too late."

"In my public life I aspire to be naught but a figurehead, for the One Who made us, for self-evident truth, for principle, for right, for We the People, for Posterity, to be the truest representation of the foregoing I can be, in the land of the free, the home of the republican, constitutional form of representative self-government that our forebears sacrificed, and bled, and in some cases died, to give us."

"A constitution founded on these principles introduces knowledge among the people, and inspires them with a conscious dignity becoming freemen; a general emulation takes place, which causes good humor, sociability, good manners, and good morals to be general. That elevation of sentiment inspired by such a government, makes the common people brave and enterprising. That ambition which is inspired by it makes them sober, industrious, and frugal."
-- John Adams, Thoughts on Government, 1776
"True unity can only be established around God, around the truth, around principle." -- TOM HOEFLING
"True unity can only be established around God, around the truth, around principle. Anything else is, at best , a fruitless diversion, or, at worst, a dangerous, destructive delusion. "
-- Tom Hoefling, November 12, 2012
"If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power."
-- DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, speech, Mar. 6, 1956
"The steady character of our countrymen is a rock to which we may safely moor; and notwithstanding the efforts of the papers to disseminate early discontents, I expect that a just, dispassionate and steady conduct, will at length rally to a proper system the great body of our country. Unequivocal in principle, reasonable in manner, we shall be able I hope to do a great deal of good to the cause of freedom and harmony."
-- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Elbridge Gerry, 1801
"All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression."
-- Thomas Jefferson, First Inaugural Address, 1801
“The true danger is when liberty is nibbled away, for expedience, and by parts.”
-- Edmund Burke
"And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for the second; that second for a third; and so on, till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery, to have no sensibilities left but for sinning and suffering."
-- Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Samuel Kercheval, Monticello, July 12, 1816
Vice Presidential Nominee,
"Why do the heathen rage,
and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the LORD,
and against his anointed, saying,
Let us break their bands asunder,
and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh:
the Lord shall have them in derision."
The pitiful attempts at political calculation by those who sacrifice principle at the altar of perceived electability are a joke to the One Who controls our nation. But He has His Own sense of humor: He is using their own efforts against them, and allowing them to nominate a candidate for president who is utterly unelectable. To think that Mitt Romney can defeat Barack Obama is to "imagine a vain thing." We cannot defeat liberal Democrats with liberal Republicans. It simply does not work. America's only hope is to stand with God, vote His principles, and let Him deal with Obama--and Romney.
"We have a political class that has become unprincipled, and they have created a political process that is not of the people, by the people, or for the people. Now, you can try and fix the process without addressing the lack of principle, but, at best, all you're likely to accomplish is to create a more efficient means of tyranny. No, get the principles right, quit compromising them, and then fixing the process will be easy."
-- Tom Hoefling, April 23, 2012
"A thing moderately good is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice."
-- Thomas Paine, 1792
"In politics the middle way is none at all. "
-- John Adams
"Let me give it to you straight and with no varnish:
I fear a conservative movement that has totally abandoned all principle infinitely more than I fear a second Obama term. And I fear God more than either.
We've survived evil, stupid politicians before. But we cannot survive an electorate with no principles. Especially that portion of the electorate that represents the only hope of ever putting this country back aright."
-- Tom Hoefling, April 17, 2012
“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”
-- John Quincy Adams
"The Republican Establishment 'ABO, Anybody But Obama' meme that is now being repeated again and again across America is disgusting, mindless and completely unprincipled. It is the signal that Barack Obama is now the plumb line for some people, not principle. Very sad.
As dangerous and damaging as another term for Obama might be, that doesn't even approach the danger and the damage that will be done to this republic by the continued abandonment of all principle by those who call themselves 'conservative.'"
