Snapped a couple of shots of our beautiful Iowa capitol building this week when we went down to file the campaign paperwork. My friend James Hirschberg says we'd be better off if the legislature met in a tent out in a field instead of in such sumptuous surroundings. Perhaps he's right. By the way, the star next to the flag in the top of the capitol dome is the medallion of the Grand Army of the Republic. I've included a picture of my Civil War veteran great-great grandfather Sebastian Buehler, who helped settle the Odebolt area, wearing his GAR medallion and ribbon on his lapel.
